The next ingredient from our blend of oils to hit the spotlight is Pumpkinseed Oil. This is one that many people probably haven’t heard too much about, unless they are very adventurous in the kitchen, because pumpkinseed oil has been produced for centuries for it’s use in dishes, aiding in heart health, dietary health, and even potentially helping to prevent things like prostate cancer, though more research is needed
Interestingly enough, most of the pumpkinseed oil produced doesn’t come from the big orange gourd we all recognize. Gourd? Squash? Turns out that’s pretty complicated. Regardless, most pumpkinseed oil comes from a orange-and-green striped variant of pumpkin that was originally the result of a mutation originating in a region of Austria known as Styria, which is where the oil gets it’s other name, “Styrian Gold,” though you might also see it referred to as “Green Gold.” That’s because it has a dark verdant look to it.
So what’s so special about this Styrian variant? Well, the mutation has rendered the pumpkin with a harder, firmer skin, but the prizes inside (read: the seeds) have no shells whatsoever. This makes the process of producing the oil much easier and cost effective, and thankfully, those who produce the oil have no need to use solvents to remove the shell, resulting in a much more nutrient rich and organic product.
But here at the Bespoke Beard Company, we didn’t include pumpkinseed oil in our blend for it’s culinary uses (again, please do not ingest your beard oil.) So why’s it in there? Well, for one, pumpkinseeds are very high in antioxidants, which help reduce inflammation and can even help wounds heal faster. This is great for someone who is experiencing something like an ingrown hair or is the victim of a tragic shaving incident. But, more importantly, much research has been done in using pumpkinseed oil not only to prevent hair loss, but to actually promote growth! One study even found that men using pumpkin seed oil over the course of 24 weeks actually had 40% (!) more hair growth than the control group using a placebo.
So basically, our blend uses pumpkinseed oil because we want your beard to look it’s best. Try it out for yourself, and we promise you won’t be disappointed.
